A note from the IzyMail support team
2-Aug-2007
Monitoring the IzyMail support line for incoming tickets can sometimes be a little
dry, since the typical questions do not vary much. Many cases can easiliy be solved
with one or two sentences and a response template. In that respect, the FAQ section has helped us a great deal to keep the volume
of support tickets low.
Except ...
... well, except when you receive a letter like this:
To Izymail Staff:
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! Your company is wonderful!!!! I tried everything to
push my newer Hotmail accounts to my Blackberry with no success but your
company delivered! I was about to give up until I found your company. I'm
happy to become a subscriber after trying it out. Thanks again!
Warmest Regards,
St[...] Ma[...]
Thank you, St[...], very much for your friendly message. We are
glad to welcome you and will certainly do our best to keep you as a satisfied customer.
Thanks again for taking the time to write and send the note. You certainly made
my our day ...
IzyMail and the great iPhone launch
4-Jul-2007
Sometimes, it is really nice to be hit by a surprise ...
Just hours after the iPhone sales launch, we noticed a substantial increase in IzyMail
registrations and mail downloads. Luckily enough, we had just recovered from a hard
disk failure on one of the systems and were back at full capacity.
We were well aware of the upcoming iPhone launch but had not anticipated a big impact
on IzyMail. It took us a little while to realize what was going on. As it turned
out, people were coming in from popular mobile phone or Mac forums, for example
All those postings essentially said the same: IzyMail is the solution
for Hotmail on iPhones. While Google gradually picked up
the forum threads and started to show them in its result listings, it directed even
move users to our site. The rush began to become a little frightening, but IzyMail
handled the extra load quite nicely, just a little slower than normal.
To the best of our knowledge, the forum posters are correct :-) At this time, we
not aware of an alternative solution which would integrate MSN and Hotmail into
the iPhone mail application. We are certainly proud to be the only provider of such
services in the world.
We would like to send a warm welcome to our new customers to ensure them that we
are strongy committed to the IzyMail solution and will do everything possible to
satisfy your needs related to our service.
Hotmail (MSN, Yahoo, ...) and iPhone
Following the release of the Apple iPhone, we are getting a lot of questions whether
IzyMail would make it possible to download Hotmail to iPhones. The simple answer
is:
Yes, and we welcome our new customers.
Since the iPhone has built-in support for the IMAP mail synchronization protocol,
some people have questions about that as well.
IzyMail does support IMAP as a bi-directional synchronization protocol, i.e. changes
like read/unread / delete / etc. would be reflected on the Hotmail account (and
vice versa).
However, since the specifics of IMAP implementations vary greatly between devices
and since we currently have little operational experience with iPhones, please be
aware of some of the potential gotcha's :
- IMAP is often perceived slower than simple POP3 downloads.
- If your mailbox is quite large, IzyMail may need to do a lot of work to safisfy
the synchronization requests from your device. Performance greatly depends on the
number and size of messages as well as the number of subscribed folders.
- It is usually best to keep the number of messages reasonably low (200-500 per
folder) and to archive old mail frequently. An XXL-Inbox with thousands of messages
is hard to manage through an IMAP link.
- Also, subscribing the device to an archive folder with 10,000 messages is not
a very good idea and will significantly slow down the IMAP synchronizations.
All in all, it is a new experience for you as well as for us. We are certainly watching
the current rush, will check the specific behaviours of the iPhone email application
and adjust IzyMail's inner workings as needed.

Hotmail (Yahoo, AOL, ...) forwarding
9-May-2007
Some of our customers have reported that Google's
Gmail collection engine works too slow or does not deliver messages in time.
We have checked the dynamics of the Gmail machine and as it turns out, the Google
people have programmed it in a way that it only runs once per hour and only gets
200 messages or less per download cycle. For many of our customers, this is not
enough.
Since Hotmail to Gmail forwarding is such a popular use of IzyMail,
we have decided to implement a better forwarding engine right into IzyMail. The
new feature is currently being tested and will be released shortly. A preview of the future look
of the IzyMail Control Panel is
available here.
This will become an exciting new feature of your IzyMail acccount with options that
you will not find anywhere else, like:
- Flexible retention times: A copy of all forwarded messages will
stay in your Hotmail Inbox for a period of time, such that lost messages are for
sure a thing of the past.
- Configurable retrieval intervals: For our premium subscribers,
there will be an option to have new messages forwarded soon after they arrive, much
faster than the Gmail hourly retrieval interval.
While the IzyMail forwarding feature was inspired by the popular need to forward
Hotmail to Gmail, it is not limited to that. In fact, it will forward to any other
email address, for example Blackberry or T-mobile
mailboxes.
Gmail Import

Import Hotmail into Gmail
Javed Mandary has
published instructions for importing Hotmail into Gmail.
Thank you, Javed.
Sent Messages
28-Feb-2007
Save a copy of sent messages
We are now implementing an exciting new feature into your IzyMaail subscription.
IzyMail can now automatically save a copy of all your outgoing mail into the webmail
'Sent Messages' folder.
While this unique feature of your IzyMail account is already useful with your desktop
email application, it proves to be even more valuable when using IzyMail with your
PDA, Pocket PC or Smartphone. All outgoing mail from all devices can finally be
kept in one place and accessed from everywhere.
The new IzyMail 'Sent Messages' capability is currently available for Hotmail and
other Windows Live accounts and we have made it an option of your account.
To activate the option, please tick the 'Sent Items' checkbox on your
IzyMail control panel.
IzyMail Update
6-December-2006
Speed improvements
As mailboxes and mail messages tend to bigger and bigger, some of our customers
were seeing slow-downs and timeouts while large messages were being downloaded.
The latest IzyMail update contains a number of changes to improve the overall responsiveness
of the system. Download speed has almost doubled which should be very noticable
with large messages containing photo or video attachments.
IMAP IDLE / Push mail services for Hotmail and other webmail systems
We are proud to announce IMAP IDLE support in IzyMail, a new feature which essentially
enables pushmail for your Hotmail account. With a compatible email application,
you will be instantly notified of new incoming mail, without the need to schedule
a send/receive.
A growing number of mobile and PC applications can listen to the IDLE notifications
from IzyMail. Please check with your application vendor or support team.
IzyMail Version 3
We are proud to announce IzyMail version 3, a major update to the well-known
IzyMail Online system. Version 3 has been rebuilt from ground up for improved
functionality, reliability and speed.
New and improved features
- Message download via POP3 and IMAP from major webmail providers like MSN, Hotmail,
Yahoo or AOL.
- Sending messages via SMTP with authentication. Your legitimate outgoing mail is
less likely to be classified as spam.

to manage options and settings.
- Custom folder support via POP3. Retrieve messages from all of your folders, even
on small, mobile devices.
- Message-age filter to enhance the speed of message retrieval. Only the most recent

PDA.
- Read/unread filter to further speed up. Only new and unread messages will be brought
to your PDA.
- Automatic folder markers to simplify custom message rules.
- Better support for IMAP SEARCH and other commands.
- Faster and better IMAP folder synchronization and re-synchronization.
- A very significant speed improvement for large mailboxes.
